Scuba Spearfishing Banned in West Hawaii

Spearfishing whilst Scuba Diving has been banned by the Hawaii Board of Land and Natural Resources after 10 years of discussions and hearings. The board voted 4-2, on Friday June 28th, in favor of the ban after hearing more than six hours of testimony on fishing in the area.

The vote also approved restrictions limiting aquarium fish collection to 40 species

In a survey conducted last year, nearly 90 percent of West Hawaii’s 565 residents supported the scuba ban.
