The finalists for the 2021 Ocean Photography Awards have been announced.
This year’s submissions run the gamut from multicolored squid and translucent deep-sea creatures to rainbow-covered waves and split-shots of sharks at sunset to freediving journeys with humpback whales to shots of surfers wrestling with frothing waves.
The finalists also highlight the perils of ghost fishing lines and disposable COVID-19 masks along with vast trawler nets and melting ice.
The Female Fifty Fathoms and Ocean Photographer of the Year finalists will be announced on September 16th.
The winners of this year’s awards will be announced via a series of films from September 10th – 16th, released on the Ocean Photography Awards Instagram page. A free, outdoor public exhibition alongside the River Thames is scheduled from September 17th – October 17th on the Queen’s Walk, near Tower Bridge.
