The 2016 AIDA Team Freediving World Championships start today – Saturday 17th September – in Kalamata, Greece. 90 Athletes are descending on the competition hotel to register and train in the next two days before the first competitive dives on Monday. The full competition runs till the 24th September.
The competition sees countries compete as teams and the tactics used by competitors often see strategic thinking by the whole team to maximize points, not just the individuals.
Some athletes have arrived early to train prior to the competition and has seen National Records for Malaysia, South Korea and Ukraine:
- Syafidatul Azua Shafii (Malaysia) – 46m Constant Weight (CWT)
- Sun Young Kim (South Korea) – 65m Constant Weight (CWT)
- Nataliia Zharkova (Ukraine) – 95m Constant Weight (CWT)
