Alenka Artnik Keeps Diving Deeper At Vertical Blue 2021

When it comes to smashing freediving world records, Slovenia’s Alenka Artnik has been the Energizer Bunny this past week.

On Day 7 of the Vertical Blue 2021 freediving competition at Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas, Artnik set a new Constant Weight (CWT) women’s world record with her 122m/400ft dive in 3mins 34secs.

It was the third world record in the CWT discipline that Artnik set during this competition, where she dove to 118m/387ft on Day 1 and 120m/394ft on Day 4.

Day 7 was also a banner day for women breaking national records.

Italy’s Alessia Zecchini set a national CWT record with her 117m/384ft dive in 3mins 25secs. South Korea’s Jung A Kim bested her Day 4 national Constant Weight with Bifins (CWTBF) record with an 86m/282ft dive in 3mins 26secs.

Turkey’s Birgul Erken, who on Day 2 set a national Free Immersion (FIM) record with a 74m/243ft dive in 3mins flat, bested that feat on Day 7 with a 78m/230ft dive in 3mins 25secs.

South Africa’s Talya Davidoff bested her Constant Weight No Fins (CNF) record set on Day 5 with a 48m/131ft dive in 2mins 10 secs.

On the men’s side, Chile’s Simon Bennett set a national CWTBF record with his 71m/233ft dive in 2mins 48secs.
