If you already use a Garmin sports watch for regular swim training and are interested in getting into freediving, there’s some new software that’s compatible with several Garmin watches.
Freediver and software developer Charles Rincheval has come up with a pair of apnea apps compatible with various Garmin watch models.
The Apnea DYN app is meant for horizontal, pool-based freediving training. The software allows the freediver to see recovery time, dive time, cumulative recovery and dive time, heart rate, current depth and more all on one screen.
Without the depth measurement, the Apnea DYN app is compatible with Garmin’s Forerunner 230, 235, 630 and 735XT models. With the depth measurement, it’s compatible with the Forerunner 920XT (3-meter/10-foot limit), 935, Fenix 3 (15-meter/49-foot limit), Fenix 3 HR, Chronos, 5, 5S and 5X models.
The Apnea CWT app is meant for vertical freediving. On only two screens, you can see your surface time, the number of dives you’ve done, the most recent immersion time and depth, heart rate, current depth, vertical speed and immersion duration. It sports adjustable settings and alerts.
The Apnea CWT app is currently compatible with Garmin’s Fenix 5 models, the Forerunner 935, Fenix 3, Fenix Chronos and very soon for the Vivoactive HR.
Just be aware though, that these apps aren’t officially supported by Garmin.
