DAN to Host DMT Course in Fall 2003

Qualified divers will be able to attend a Duke University / DAN Diver Medical Technician (DMT) program at DAN headquarters in Durham, N.C., Nov. 1-8, 2003. The National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology has accredited this seven-day, 65-hour course as a Module 16 program.

Drawing on the vast array of expertise in the Duke University hyperbaric staff and the medical staff at DAN, the knowledge development portions of the program will draw from lectures presented as part of the regular Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology courses offered at Duke University and regularly at resort locations.

The program will include skill training in all of DAN’s current Training Programs with additional skill training in Otoscope Use and Field Neurological Surveys. Included as part of the program will also be a three-day Chamber Operations program at the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Environmental Physiology at the Duke University Medical Center.

Upon completion of the program, candidates will receive their DMT certifications through the NBDHMT. A prerequisite to participating in this program is EMT-B certification or higher. Interested and qualified candidates may also elect to stay an additional day to receive DAN Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification in all DAN Training Programs. To be a DAN Instructor, candidates must be a leadership-level diver and CPR Instructor. To be a DAN Instructor Trainer, candidates must be Instructor Trainers or Course Directors with a recognized scuba diving training organization.
