Porirua Pool, Wellington, New Zealand, — The Cressi World Record Challenge was set up so that Dave Mullins could demonstrate his aquatic athletic ability, and he has done just that. On Monday September 27, 2010 Mullins executed a clean “No Fins” swim of 218 meters on a single breath to stake his claim as the sole World Record holder in DNF. Dave’s record-setting 218m DNF dive took 4 minutes and :11 seconds.
“I didn’t swim to my potential, I was a bit tired today after Saturday’s effort but I’m glad to have achieved what we set out to do,” Mullins told reporters. Dave’s personal best in the discipline of dynamic no fins is actually 232 meters but with myriad television crews, sponsors and so many people on hand cheering him on, Mullins was not going to risk a successful freediving event by pushing the maximum,
“I probably could have pushed it a bit more today but if I had tried to kick on and things had gone bad, I could have been disqualified and I would have kicked myself. I’m happy to have just broken the record.”

Now with two horizontal world records satisfactorily under his belt we can all watch knowing that Dave Mullins has already set his ambitious sights on the next goal of a world record in the vertical category of constant weight.
