DEMA 2006 Special: New Equipment from MARES

Wondering where the italians have been? They’ve been off making cool stuff for us to dive in and now MARES is back at DEMA for the first time in 3 years. “We really want to support our retailers and recreational divers, and having the bigger brands here at the show definitely creates more excitement!” proclaims Julie O’Hara, a planning manager for MARES’ diving division.

Some of the hottest new items are specifically designed for the ladies as well; MARES SHE DIVES is a line designed by an international team of women divers who set out to create a collection of products both beautiful to look at and better to dive with.

A new line of BCD’s made their way to the show floor including the “Icon” for the boys and the “Aliikai” for the for ladies. Both designs feature BPS Plus which is a patented dual position lumbar system – to protect your lower back while keeping it comfy. Adjustable chest straps allow for convenience and personalization for drysuits and or a person’s torso length. Both BCD’s have a powerful 44lbs of lift and a customized “Quick Pack System” that makes it easy to take these Bc’s on all of your far away destinations. Streamlined and light these will make great travel BCD’s.

And seeing has never been better. The already popular X-Vision line of masks (as the scuba editor of this rag I must confess that I dive with an X-Vision myself and absolutely love it) has a new star. The X-Vision Liquid Skin is a mask that combines the best of a firm silicone to support the lenses in a mask and a skirt silicone that is 45% softer for the greatest comfort on your face and around the eyes. The new, softer silicone that frames your face is also 270 times more elastic, which allows for a truly custom and comfortable fit. A MARES patent make this a truly unique mask.

And don’t worry if you do have poor eyesight the new MARES Nemo Wide is being touted as the best computer interface between divers and the sea. The Nemo Wide computer has superior display readability with a 170 degree viewing angle – the large display with its super high contrast is easy to see and read at almost any angle in the water. The 4 button program-ability of the computer is also very easy and intuitive to use. Plus, divers will have the convenience of upgrading software for the console directly via the PC interface – which lets you take advantage of MARES updates via the internet as soon as they come out. 3 dive modes: Air, Nitrox and bottom time keep recreational divers safe and informed.
