If you’re a recreational trimix/rebreather diver and are looking for a challenge, DiveTech is offering a chance to go with a small group to dive the 12-Mile Bank off of Grand Cayman next August.
The reef formation, shaped like a kidney, lies 90 to 100 feet/27-30 meters underwater. While other dive operators are confined to 130-foot-/40-meter-or-shallower recreational depths, Divetech‘s technical dive profiles allow advanced divers to go as far down as 250 feet/76 meters.
DiveTech General Manager Tony Land, who led an initial exploratory dive trip to the bank last year, says of the location:
“Divetech is always looking for new and exciting adventures for our clients. 12-mile is unique in that it is remote and seldom explored. Our divers were probably among the first humans to lay eyes on sections of those walls. There aren’t many places you can do that in the world anymore, especially this close to civilization.”
Prices for the trip will be US$3200/2914 Euros for a single-occupancy King room or $2900/2641 Euros for a shared Twin room at DiveTech’s Lighthouse Point Condo. The package includes seven nights’ accommodations, all taxes, transfers to and from the airport, five boat trips, plus unlimited shore diving at Lighthouse Point. It also includes breakfast each day as well as lunch plus a “Dine Around” option for evening meals along with a farewell barbeque.
The trip being rebreather-only, you’ll need a minimum CCR Normoxic Trimix certification.
A minimum of eight divers will be needed for the expedition to run, with deposits refundable up until June 1, 2017.
