Fisherman rescues friend from shark infested waters

A fisherman swam 12 hours through shark-infested waters to raise the alarm after his trawler overturned off Australia.

Sky News reports how Michael Williams left two colleagues clinging to debris as he embarked on his journey to shore. His colleague John Jarrett, was rescued after spending 30 hours at sea but the skipper Charlie Picton is still missing.

Mr Williams, aged 39, swam to the shore when their trawler Sea Rogueoverturned, and was found collapsed and injured on a New Brighton Beach,north of Byron Bay, by a passer by.  A police officer said he was in a distressed state with bad cuts and bruises to his legs and his arms as well as severe sunburn. 

Police said an assessment of the search for Charlie Picton would soon be made.
