Florida SpearFisher Challenges Grouper

On Saturday 9th August 206, a SpearFisher was found dead off the Florida Keys in the US. It seems that after spearing a Goliath Grouper (a protected species) the victim was dragged to the bottom of the ocean by the fish and pinned against the coral rock.

According to Mark Coleman, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Detective "It looks like the fish wrapped the line attached to the spear around the victim’s wrist. The fish then went into a hole in a coral rock, effectively pinning the man to the bottom of the ocean."

Goliath Groupers get their name from being fairly large and it is not unknown for them to be able to put up a good fight with Fisherman and SpearFishermen.
