FreediveUK Offering Mermaid Course

Can’t get enough of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid?” Love watching professional Mermaid (and friend of DeeperBlue.com) Linden Wolbert‘s educational videos?

Well now you can learn to be a mermaid as well as Cornwall, England-based freediving academy FreediveUK is offering a new course that teaches freediving breath-hold techniques as well as diving with an actual mermaid tail.

We are offering this course to help increase the public’s awareness of freediving as a sport and to help introduce it to a wider market,” according to FreediveUK Director Ian Donald. “It isn’t a sport just for superhuman athletes, it can be for anyone and for so many different purposes, becoming a mermaid being one of them.

During the one-day course, students are first taught the same breathing techniques freedivers use, and then are taught how to dive using a full mermaid tail.

My focus is to make the students feel comfortable in the water; after all, being a mermaid is supposed to be fun!” says Mermaid Lissy, FreediveUK‘s resident Mermaid instructor.

Basic photos of the students swimming with their own mermaid tails come with the course, but students also have the option of having a professional underwater photographer take pictures of them as well.

Wanna-be Mermaids/Mermen 16 years old or older are eligible for the course.
