GoPro Broadcast First-Ever Underwater Livestream

GoPro Athlete Roberta Mancino diving with Lemon Sharks in the Bahamas, March 2016

GoPro, the makers of the extremely popular compact video camera range, recently completed their first-ever underwater live stream using their GoPro HERO4 Black cameras to show off the newly announced integration with Periscope.

The dive was completed with GoPro athletes Jeb Corliss and Roberta Mancino off the island of the Bahamian island of Bimini with Jim Abernethy’s Scuba Adventures and featured some spectacular video of them diving with hammerhead sharks.  Each diver used OTS Guardian Facemasks with GoPro’s mounted on them which used a WiFi signal to broadcast to an iPhone on the surface that then in turn broadcast to the world.

The Livestream was done using Periscope – an app by Twitter that allows people to live broadcast from their phones.  Earlier this year GoPro announced the functionality to livestream direct from their cameras.

GoPro published an interview with Corliss prior to the broadcast that can be found via the GoPro website.
