-

The International Association of Free Divers (IAFD) in conjunction with Viva Dominicus Beach, located in La Romana, Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, will sponsor two ??Free Diving World Record?? attempts taking place on Oct. 24 and Oct. 26 in 2002. Audrey Mestre and Pipin Ferreras, World Champions for the Female and Male No Limits category, will be the protagonists of these feats. On Oct. 24, Audrey Mestre will attempt to break her own Female World Record in the No Limits category by diving 151 meters (492 ft.). This dive will be filmed in high definition 24p digital for use in the trailer of the upcoming movie Oceanwomen, a movie that follows the lives of female free divers who have dared to surpass male limits. With this dive, Ms. Mestre will exceed the last No Limits World Record set by Italian free diver Umberto Pelizzari, before he retired.

Then, on Oct. 26, Pipin Ferreras will try to establish a new World Record in the No Limits category and a new mark for human endurance. He will dive to a depth between 165 (541ft.) and 175 meters (574 ft). With this immersion, Mr. Ferreras will maintain his position as the man who has gone deepest in the ocean with only one breath of air.
