Looks like the law caught up with a group of divers who were recently filmed riding a whale shark in Cenderawasih Bay National Park in Indonesia.

Predictably, the video, which was posted on Facebook and has more than three-quarters-of-a-million views, has resulted in a strident backlash by environmental advocates.

Sea Safari Cruises, whose dive boat the divers allegedly used, sent a letter to a local environmental group, saying:

“We in no way condone or facilitate or promote this kind of interaction with marine life. When guests come aboard and before any diving activities commence there is an essential briefing regarding common accepted safe practices such as maintaining good buoyancy and not to disturb or harass the marine life.”

Indonesian police arrested the divers a few days after the video was taken. No word yet on what charges they face.
