‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Actors Needed Freediving Training

-

While swordfighting and horseback training would be an obvious prerequisite for the actors taking part in the highly anticipated upcoming “Lord of the Rings” prequel series, you wouldn’t think that freedive training would be on that list, but it was.

During a panel at this past weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con in California, actors Morfydd Clark and Charlie Vickers talked about the freediving training they underwent for Amazon Prime Video’s “The Rings of Power” series.

Vickers, who plays Halbrand, said:

“We did the freedive training, so we had to learn to hold our breath underwater. I think we started — I started at like 25 seconds, and by the end could get a couple of minutes.”

Clark, who plays Galadriel, said:

“The thing with freediving is that . . . it doesn’t get easier, you just get more used to ignoring the pain.”

Late-night talk show host and avid “Lord of the Rings” fan Steven Colbert, who was moderating the panel, quipped:

“Wow, much like an acting career.”
