Details remain sketchy, but authorities have confirmed that a 26 year old male died as a result of injuries sustained during an attack by a 6m shark. The incident occured at the Abrolhos Islands, near Geraldton, off the coast of Western Australia.
The victim was snokelling with a group of tourists.
This incident is the third fatal attack in 5 years, and comes only a year after spearfishing legend Greg Pickering was attacked and wounded by a Bronze Whaler whilst spearfishing.
The Abrolhos Islands are a coral island system which draws tourists due to their reknown as a feeding ground for the harmless Whale Shark.
