Molchanov Gets World Record, Zecchini Comes Up Short

-

Alexey Molchanov set a new men’s freediving world record at the AIDA Oceanquest Philippines 2023 competition this past week.

Molchanov, diving under no flag since Russia was banned from competitions due to his country’s invasion of Ukraine, dove to 121m/394ft in the Constant Weight with Bifins (CWTB) discipline.

Meanwhile, Italy’s Alessia Zecchini, who was gunning for her second Constant Weight with Monofin (CWT) women’s world record in as many days, fell short of her 125m/410ft goal, only managing 117m/384ft before having to turn back.

A couple days earlier, Zecchini set the new record at 123m/403ft.
