New Primary Sponsor For The Florida Spearfishing Tournament

The Florida Spearfishing Tournament has gained a new primary sponsor for the 2017 tournament. Speared has taken over the headlining sponsorship to help grow the tournament and reach more people.

“We strongly believe in the structure of the tournament”, said Aaron Chasse, the owner of Speared. “We believe in conservation of our fisheries. This tournament allows spearfisherman to compete with others around the state while spearing fish they’d be “We believe in conservation of our fisheries. This tournament allows spearfisherman to compete with others around the state while spearing fish they’d be spearing anyway. It’s frustrating to watch people spearfish they wouldn’t normally spear just to win a tournament. Though we love the competition factor, we want to see fish go to good use. Since this is statewide and nearly a year long, it’s not taking a lot of fish from one area for one day. We believe it’s a very sustainable way to compete while spearfishing. It also gives recreational spearfisherman a chance to compete with some of the biggest names in our industry.”

Speared worked hard to gain partnerships with lots of other brands to bring more to the table for the competitors. Each fish species has it’s own sponsor. The sponsors range from well-known dive shops to photographers. We really want to make it fun for all that participate.

One of the biggest additions to this year’s tournament is the increased prizes for the removal of Lionfish. Lionfish are an invasive species for Florida and the Caribbean. ZooKeeper stepped up and is providing a large range of prizes for those that are helping eradicate the lionfish. The person with the most lionfish removed by the end of the year will be highly rewarded, but there are ways for any that participate to win various products as well. There’s also a hefty reward for anyone that breaks the state record lionfish length.

There’s also going to be a Top Dog crowned at the end of the year. The person with the most species, and longest length (sum of all the fish), will be the Speared Top Dog, and will have bragging rights for the next year.
