The famous cave diving site Eagle’s Nest in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area of Florida is getting some new rules aimed at increasing the safety of the often-deadly dive site.
The move is in response to recent fatalities at the site, which has claimed at least 12 scuba divers’ lives since 1981, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Effective immediately, to dive the Eagle’s Nest divers must be at least 18 years old, and must complete an online registration process prior to every dive. The process will include safety information for the area, as well as a liability release.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the new rules only apply to scuba divers and not swimmers and freedivers.
