NOAA’s Marine Debris Tracker App Logs 2 Million Pieces of Litter

-

More than two million items of litter located in all parts of the globe have been logged into the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Marine Debris Tracker app since it was first introduced in 2010.

In the past decade, the app has been steadily upgraded to include being able to use it in five languages and filter options that gives you the capability to make the items you collect more personal.

Additionally, a number of conservation organizations have been able to use the data gleaned from the app to inform the public.

You can download the tracker app here or check out the Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP), a citizen science initiative that brings conservation organizations together and allows them to compile debris surveys along the coasts every month.
