One Year On, Stream2Sea Is Still Growing

Last year at DEMA 2015, DeeperBlue.com got a chance to interview co-founder Autumn Blum about Stream2Sea, which at that time was just three months old.

A year later, we stopped by the Stream2Sea booth to see how things are going.

This time, we were able to speak with co-founder Kristin Giuliani about how far Stream2Sea has come and where they’re headed. She spoke of expansion and partnerships, and of spreading the word about ocean-safe (and people-safe) products. It seems they’ve been quite busy!

As people become more conscious of the impact they make on the environment, the demand for ecologically responsible products jumps, and that’s good for business. Stream2Sea now has more than 350 retail partners all over the world — from the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, to Mexico and Bali.

Stream2Sea is a company with a clear and consistent mission to protect the world’s oceans, and they do that at all levels of the business. Aside from developing and distributing eco-friendly personal care products that are just as effective as their conventional counterparts, they campaign to raise awareness and promote ecological stewardship, and donate a portion of their sales to their partners at the NAUI Green Diver Initiative.

They have multiple Ambassador programs geared toward promoting environmentally conscious diving, and are happy to provide sample kits and promotional materials to spread the word. The Wavemaker Ambassador program is for individuals who do a lot of diving and like to post about it on their social media. If you’re a dive community culture-maker, they’ll send you some samples to try and to share with other divers. All they ask is that you share your experiences online and help spread the word.

Headed to a destination or liveaboard that bans the use of chemical sunscreens? Talk to Stream2Sea about their Travel Ambassador program. They’ll send you off with some sample for you to try and to share with your shipmates. Or maybe you run a dive boat yourself and want to promote conservation to your passengers. You’re in a unique position to influence divers from all over the world, and Stream2Sea wants to help. Along with samples, they’ll include signs you can post with a list of chemicals commonly found in sunscreen that are harmful to ocean life. If you’re interested in becoming an ambassador, drop them a line and get involved!

If you’re just in it for the great body products that are good for your skin and the environment, check out their products here. Our favorites are the Conditioning Shampoo and Body Wash (US$12.95/12.19 Euros for a 6 oz./170 gram bottle), which is safe for use on deck aboard your dive boat, and the Leave-In Conditioner ($12.95 for a 6 oz. bottle).  Kristin told us she loves the Sun and Sting Relief Gel ($12.95 for a 6 oz. bottle), which cools and soothes everything from bug bites to the sting from chopping chiles. And of course there’s their flagship product: the mineral Sunscreen ($16.95/15.95 Euros for a 3 oz./85 gram bottle).
