Project AWARE and PADI have announced the creation of a new non-profit organization, the PADI AWARE Foundation.
The new charity is focused on ocean conservation and aims to build local networks, partnerships, and programs to achieve its goals.
One of the first projects undertaken by the PADI AWARE Foundation is the creation of its Community Grant Program. This will provide financial resources to PADI Dive Centers and Resorts to support local protection activities and initiatives.
Commenting on the creation of the new foundation, PADI Worldwide President and CEO Drew Richardson stated:
“This investment in the ocean’s future is so essential that, in addition to other funding sources, PADI Worldwide has committed to direct financial support of the foundation’s operation and work. This means that in a sense, simply by taking a PADI course, every PADI Diver you certify helps save the ocean – and we will encourage them to do more… We invite all ocean conservation-minded divers, stakeholders and organizations to join us in supporting the PADI AWARE Foundation.”
