PADI Developing New Tech Basics Course

-

As PADI dives deeper into the world of tech courses, the need for a well-rounded “intro to tech” course has become more and more prevalent.

The pending Tech Basics course is set to debut around Spring 2023 and will be solely taught in back-mount open circuit. The class will focus on motor skills and gear handling, gas sharing skills and management as well as weighting and trim.

The main goal of the Tech Basics course is to make tech divers more comfortable in the water. The course will be completely optional, and can be taken before or after any of the previous tech courses: Tech 40, 45 and 50. It will be taught in either a pool or confined-water setting.

Gear handling will be the primary focus of the Tech Basics course, and the idea is to not only give the student a better understanding of how the gear works, but to leave them with an elevated level of confidence after completion of the class. PADI says the class could also be perfect for any diver looking to switch from side-mount to back-mount.

Tech Basics will be available for any student who is at least at the Advanced Open Water level, and can be taught by any PADI tech instructor.
