DeeperBlue.com caught up with Kirk Krack and John Hullverson of Performance Freediving International on the fly as they were headed to yet another meeting at DEMA Show 2017.
Known for its educational systems and training, PFI promotes high adherence to safety in all of its programs. Kirk commented that PFI was seeing exceptional interest in its programs at DEMA Show including educational systems partners Divers Alert Network (DAN), Suunto, Dive Xtras, and NAUI.
PFI co-presented with Dr. Michael Lang from the University of California at San Diego’s Emergency Medical Center of Excellence in Diving. PFI was asked to participate in a colloquium of 15 divers and 15 researchers to discuss freediving. Essentially, the researches told freedivers that what they were doing was essentially impossible, to which PFI replied,
“We’re going to keep doing it anyway.”
PFI is also proud to announce that Ryan Reed and Kate Klosterman have become Staff Instructors. In addition to a number of programs available at the PFI booth during the show, its instructors were routinely teaching show participants to achieve a 3-minute breath hold literally right there in the booth (see above photo).
PFI is exploring the use of side-mount rebreathers for use on the surface for its air/Nitrox needs to enhance technical freediving activities in remote locations. The company is also ramping up for Deja Blue 9, which will be PFI’s 14th consecutive competition in the Cayman Islands.
