Project AWARE Campaigning For Shortfin Mako Shark Catch Limits

-

Project AWARE is at DEMA Show 2017 looking to make an impact on the overfishing of Atlantic shortfin mako sharks. Currently, there are no catch limits for these fish, and countries such as Egypt, South Africa, and the United States are the target of Project AWARE’s efforts.

The shortfin mako is highly sought after for its meat, fins, and for sports fishing, making it exceptionally vulnerable. In the coming weeks, Project AWARE will be meeting with the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) to discuss creating catch limits for these shortfin makos, and ultimately working towards creating a ban on landing them altogether.

Help Project AWARE get to 10,000 signatures by signing the petition at e-activist.com. Learn more about their current efforts by watching the video below or visiting ProjectAware.org.
