RSPCA forced to destroy stranded whale

“An infant long finned pilot whale, which beached after becoming separated from its mother, has been put down by the RSPCA.

The 2.2m-long cetacean was spotted at Dawlish Warren sandpit in east Devon. An RSPCA Inspector said he believed the underweight whale was the same animal that had been re-floated after becoming stranded at nearby Exmouth over the weekend.

The whale was destroyed because it would not have survived without its mother. Three RSPCA inspectors, members of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Group, and a local vet attended the scene.
