Rescuers have found the body of Saudi freediving national champion Bassam Bakheet in the waters off Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Bakheet was training for a freediving competition when he went missing last Thursday, according to press reports.

His body was subsequently found on the sea floor, 81 meters (266 feet) below the surface.

In May 2017, Bakheet set a Saudi national record in the Free Immersion (FIM) discipline at an AIDA freediving competition in Egypt with a 71-meter/233-foot dive.
