Scuba Schools International Passes the Torch

-

At DEMA Show 2019, I met my long-time friend Doug McNeese (on right), who just passed his CEO/General Manager position with Scuba Schools International to Guido Waetzig, from Wendelstein, Germany.

Doug will continue on with SSI as President of International Business Development. I congratulated them both on their new positions.

I was instructor certified in 1977, first by NASDS, as was McNeese, who took over as Director about a decade later. I was certified as an SSI Instructor in 1991, and a little later Doug took over SSI, when NASDS merged with SSI.

I asked Doug how many DEMA Shows he has attended. His answer was:

“All 42, since DEMA #1, which was in Miami 1977.”

(Oh well, I was proud of making 21 DEMA Shows since 1980.)

SSI started in 1970 and is one of the few training agencies in the world qualified for Global ISO Certifications. In more than 110 countries and 2,800 International locations, SSI trains and certifies in Scuba Diving, Extended Range, Rebreather, Freediving, Snorkeling and Swimming.

Doug proudly showed off the agency’s new The MySSI App, which focuses on three aspects:

1. Diving Digital Certifications — right in your phone.
2. Digital Training Materials — REAL DIVING comprehensive videos, illustrations, animations and photos.
3. Digital Dive Log — all dive information, automatically downloaded dive computer data included profile.

I’ll see Doug and Guido in New Orleans for DEMA Show 2020!
