Season 2 Of Discovery Channel Series ‘Treasure Quest’ With Freediver Mehgan Heaney-Grier Premieres This Week

Mehgan Heaney-Grier will be chatting on Facebook this week.

The Discovery Channel will air Season 2 of its popular documentary series “Treasure Quest: Snake Island”  beginning this Friday, November 4, featuring freediving champion Mehgan Heaney-Grier.

In it, Mehgan rejoins the team as divemaster to follow additional clues to finding an Incan treasure.

The new season finds the team searching for the treasure along the Paraguay River near the borders of Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina, an area rife with dangerous piranhas, caymans, snakes and drug smugglers (some call it the “Drug Triangle” for the area’s proximity to those three countries).

In a brief telephone chat, Heaney-Grier told DeeperBlue.com she prepared for the conditions by practicing search-and-recovery techniques in Colorado and off the Florida Keys with “tin foil in my mask” to simulate low visibility.

Once on location, Heaney-Grier found herself diving the Paraguay River nearly every day in depths from 5 feet/1.5 meters to 35 feet/10.7 meters with visibility of less than a couple inches/5 centimeters in front of her. Much of the diving was done in full scuba gear and a full-face OTS dive mask for communicating topside.

“This was definitely some of the most challenging diving I’ve ever done. It definitely tested me beyond my comfort zone more than once.”

Heaney-Grier said Season 2 will have “something for everyone” — from divers to history and nature buffs.

Once the season starts, check out Mehgan’s Youtube channel, which will have additional snippets about the show from her perspective.

Episode 1 of Season 2 of “Treasure Quest: Snake Island” premieres on the Discovery Channel in the USA at 10pm Eastern this coming Friday November 4.

  • This was definitely some of the most challenging diving I’ve ever done. It definitely tested me beyond my comfort zone more than once.” - how banal, written by the marketing team, no doubt.

    • I got a chance to see an advance screening of the first episode. Without giving away any spoilers, she wasn't exaggerating.

  • There's no tri border area between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina on the Paraguay River, that tri border area is on the Parana River. Did she dive on the Paraguay or Parana River?

    • She dove the Paraguay River. Thanks for the question. Tweaked the story a bit. Would also recommend you watch the first episode and see if what they say is correct. :-)
