Sigourney Weaver Talks About Her Freediving Training For ‘Avatar 2’

Looks like Kate Winslet isn’t the only actor to gush about her freediving training for the upcoming Avatar 2 movie.

Reports have emerged that Director James Cameron is planning on making the Oceans beneath Pandora an integral part of the film. The move is not really surprising since Cameron is known to have a passion for the underwater world: Two of his films — Titanic and The Abyss — were filled with underwater action.

Further proof that there will be plenty of underwater action in the upcoming blockbuster, Sigourney Weaver, who is returning to the franchise as a new character, was trained in freediving. She boasted to Yahoo News that as part of her training:

“At least on land, I’m up to four minutes holding my breath.”

She also confirmed that she has been scuba certified so she can film all the scenes needed in the new film. She added:

“And I’m now scuba certified as well as in the midst of becoming an accomplished free diver. Once I completed my scuba course, Jim said to me, ‘The 75 percent of the world that’s underwater is now part of what your world gets to be.’”

If you’re already excited about Avatar 2, you’ll have to wait. The movie premieres on December 17th, 2020.
