A city advocate of Cape Town was found dead by a close friend, twenty-four hours after he went spearfishing at Melkbosstrand this weekend. He had been searching the sea for him with rescuers, relatives and friends.
It is suspected Cliff Hinds, 37, of Melkbosstrand drowned while swimming back to shore and police have opened an inquest docket into the incident.
The National Sea Rescue Institute’s (NSRI) spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said Hinds’s body was found early Sunday by Hinds’s close friend, Carel Neethling, in two-and-a-half metre deep water near to where he had gone missing on Saturday.
Hinds’s distraught wife had to be sedated.

Edit by News Editor: I have received a report from dive centres in Cape Town and also from the Sports presenter of 94.5 Kfm| 567 CapeTalk that Mr. Hind was indeed spearfishing, and not scuba diving as reported by IOL. The Spearo Mr. Hind allegedly told his buddy that he was tired, and was going to swim back to shore.
