The cinematic retelling of the famous rescue of a Thai boys soccer team trapped in a cave, “Thirteen Lives,” was released in select movie theaters this past weekend and on Amazon Prime video.
The movie, starring Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell and directed by Ron Howard, shows the harrowing work an international team of cave divers did to bring out the boys and their coach through a flooded cave system.
The rescue also highlighted the efforts of more than 90 divers, 50 or so from the global cave diving community, including British veteran cave rescue experts Rick Stanton (whom Mortensen portrays) and John Volanthen (whom Farrell plays).
The movie was shot in Australia and Thailand, and production began in March 2021, according to Deadline.
