The Bluewater Classic Results

The Bluewater Classic is held each year in the Northen New South Wales town of Coffs Harbour in Australia. It is a pelgaic-species-only competition and all fish are auctioned with the proceeds going to local charities.

Held on the 7th and 8th of May, the 2005 Classic was marred by rough conditions. Undeterred a field of 52 divers took to the waters. In the end only 37 divers would manage to weigh a fish!

The first day was notable for the capture of a Black Marlin by Mick Glen, a quality fish which helped Mick lead the field into the second day.

The conditions worsened somewhat on the Sunday, with one competitor injured in the rough seas. The final results saw local spearfishing identity Brett Vercoe take out the Classic with an impressive catch of eleven species on the second day, after capturing four on the first, making him the clear winner.

Multiple Australian Ladies Champion, Naomi Spicer took out the Women’s division, and Sydney diver Chris Music conquered nerves and an upset stomach to claim the Junior title.
