Three Men Arrested For Abusing Live Shark

Three men turned themselves in to Florida police this week for having allegedly dragged a live shark behind their boat at high speed over the summer.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, 21-year-old Michael Wenzel and 28-year-old Robert Lee “Bo” Benac were each charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty — both felonies — and a misdemeanor count. If convicted, they could each face maximum five-year prison sentences and fines of US$10,000 (~8449 Euros).

Twenty-three-year-old Spencer Heintz was only charged with the two felonies.

Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren said:

“The State Attorney’s Office is committed to holding these men accountable for having engaged in such senseless and unjustifiable animal cruelty.”
