As Deja Blue 7 keeps unfolding in Grand Cayman, the second day of competition saw Tom Gilmore set a new freediving national record for the USA with an impressive 154-meter/505-foot Dynamic No Fins performance. The Performance Freediving instructor successfully completed the dive in 2:43, securing a white card with a clean exit.
Brazil’s Adriana Brandao set a second national record in two days with a 104m/341-ft performance in DNF beating her own record of 102m/334.6ft set at the same competition the year before. Meanwhile, Jeremy Walton established a new national record for the Cayman Islands with 68m/223ft in that same discipline.
Earlier during day 2, in-depth disciplines, very few white cards and a long series of disqualifications sharply contrasted with the “white-out” success seen on day 1 with only 50 percent of the athletes successfully completing their dives with a white card.
Still, the women delivered solid constant weight performances, with Canadian favorite Mandy-Rae Krack, Chinese national record holder Jessea Lu and fellow PFI instructor Shell Eisenberg all plunging down to 70m/229ft and below.
Here are the current standings after day 2. New US record holder Thomas Gilmore‘s daughter, Meghan Gilmore, leads the women’s standings with 189.5 points while American athlete Kurt Randolph leads the men’s standings with 219 points.
