It’s almost like something “Q” would take out of his pocket in a James Bond film: an artificial gill that allows the user to breathe underwater without an air tank.

Korean designer Jeabyun Yeon has come up with an idea called the TRITON Portable Oxygen Respirator. The concept is fairly straighforward, he says:

“To breathe under water, we must learn how to use a complicated oxygen respirator. If we can stay under water for a long time through an easy way, many changes will occur in our marine lifestyle.”

TRITON extracts oxygen under water through a filter made of fine threads with holes smaller than water molecules:

“Using a very small but powerful micro compressor, it compresses oxygen and stores the extracted oxygen in a storage tank. The micro compressor operates through a micro battery. The micro battery is a next-generation technology with a size 30 times smaller than current battery that can quickly charge 1,000 times faster.”

  1. This is extremely fake.. from the idea of breathing pure oxygen, to how much water must be filtered to make one human breath.. it’s just not feasible, and the guy didn’t even really try to fact check his science fiction.

  2. Personally, I think all the great inventions starts with an imagination that takes its shape and finally get a functional shape which then is manufactured .I do not think it would be quite impossible to manufacture such a product, with the science and technology that exist today .Just think about all the imaginary things we saw in old scfi movies that today is existing, manufactured and functional works. Actually the science is old chemistry knowledge, electrolysis. Combining some nanotechnology smart materials and battery electronics and chemistry knowledge and technological craft .I believe it would not bee impossible to create the product mentioned in this article. What I want to say is the science and technology to manufacture this already exist. Now bee a good French chef cook and make a delicious dish of the ingredients (knowledge) and serve the dish(product).

  3. What’s the matter, didn’t you get enough during the fraudulent IndyGoGo campaign, Deeper Blue? These folks were shut down for constantly evolving their story as their tech was shown to be absolutely, fantastically inadequate to the goal they claimed to be aiming for. This doesn’t belong on your site.
