Johnny Sunnex and Sofia Gomez Uribe invite you to #DiscoverDominica with them, the new home they have set their sights on for a new freediving depth competition. The dynamic duo have come together to organize what they hope will become a favorite annual, international competition for adventure-seeking men and women from around the globe.
“I really like Dominica because is not only perfect for freediving but is also the best place to be if you love nature. Training and competing can be mentally exhausting, but on this island, if you feel you want to get away from the ocean for a little while and clear your mind you can go and visit the spectacular waterfalls, or you can go on a long hike up in the hills and finish it up with a dip in the sulphur springs to relax your muscles, or go sans salt and swim in the fresh water lake… so many natural wonders that make this island truly unique and beautiful.” explained Sofia Gomez.
In this inaugural competition, the field of participants will be limited to 25 athletes and an unbelievable prize package will be up for grabs for everyone who attends, (not just the leaderboard). Housing & services will be provided by Anchorage Hotel, Whale Watch and dive Centre where guests can expect the highest level of comfort, perched perfectly on the edge of a tranquil Caribbean sea.
“As experienced athletes, Sofia and I understand what is needed at a competition to optimize one’s performance,” offered native son of New Zealand Sunnex. “At the same time, we know there is more to freediving than just training and competition. Our goal is to create an experience where athletes can perform to their very best level but at the same time immerse in a new adventure! We have simple logistics, calm, clear waters, no current and a breath-taking backdrop. We have an experienced, professional crew, many of whom have been key figures in other major events such as Vertical blue. And on top of this, we have a location like no other! I mean, where else in the world can you explore the rain-forest, trek around a crater lake and dive in a volcano exploring pristine reefs?! All within the same day! All within minutes from the dive site and accommodation.”
