A woman in her early 20s’died at Princess Alexander Hospital earlier this evening after being bitten by a shark.
The attack occured on North Stradbroke Island. The island is a location known for its population of endangered Grey Nurse Sharks, which are, however, not considered dangerous to humans.
Following transfer by rescue helicopter, surgeons at the Princess Alexander Hospital amputated both arms below the elbows. Despite this intervention the victim died shortly after.
