The ocean has always held something that no other encounter can reach. Indigenous and coastal communities have lived it for millennia. Until now, it has resisted a name.
The folks at Nekton are calling it the “Innerview,” and exploring what it means for how we understand ourselves, our ocean and our world.
On June 3rd, Nekton is hosting an event at the Royal Geographical Society for an extraordinary evening of ocean exploration, stories and discovery, as attendees will collectively imagine the Innerview with some of the most remarkable ocean voices on the planet.
According to Nekton:
“The evening will also celebrate ten years of Nekton — a decade of ocean exploration, discovery, science and storytelling that we are enormously proud of.”
The itinerary is as follows:
- 6:00–7:00pm: Public Bar and Live Entertainment
- 7:00–8:30pm: Landmark Innerview Lecture
- 8:30–10:00pm: Public Bar and Live Entertainment
Featured speakers include:
- Victor Vescovo — Explorer and first person to reach the deepest point in all five oceans and 17 trenches as well as Space, The Explorers Grand Slam – 7 Summits and North / South Poles.
- Helen Czerski — Physicist, oceanographer and BBC presenter; author of Storm in a Teacup and Blue Machine: How the Ocean Shapes Our World.
- Steve Backshall — ?BAFTA-winning naturalist, author, and explorer; broadcaster and host of?Deadly 60,?Shark?(BBC/Sky), Expedition (BBC).
- Paul Rose — ?Explorer and BBC broadcaster; National Geographic Pristine Seas Expedition Leader and former Base Commander at Rothera Research Station, Antarctica.
- Jyotika Virmani — ?Physical oceanographer and Executive Director of the Schmidt Ocean Institute; former Prize Lead for the Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE.
