Scientific Understanding Is Crucial To The Health of The Oceans


The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has released a short video highlighting the importance of managing marine minerals and how scientific research helps them better protect the ocean.

The video highlights the case of the humble Sand Lance, a tiny sand-dwelling fish that plays a crucial role in the food web. As part of its activities, the BOEM harvests sand from the continental shelf to protect communities damaged by erosion and storms.

The video highlights the importance of scientific research in understanding the effects of these activities on the sand lance and how BOEM activities can undertake in a way to have the least impact.
