East Coast Divers’ dive shop just outside of Boston, Massachusetts caught fire this week and the building is effectively gone.
While everyone got out safely, the storefront, classrooms, service department and rental inventory — along with a whole lot of history — are completely gone.
East Coast Divers’ joint owner Nick Fazah said:
“It’s been an absolutely surreal few days. One minute we’re running a dive shop that’s been serving the community for 50 years, the next we’re standing across the street watching a fireball come through the roof.
“That said, we’re still here. Classes are still running. Students are still getting certified this weekend. Trips are still happening. Service work is being moved offsite. We’ve got no intention of disappearing quietly.”
Many have stepped in to help, whether it’s through offering warehouse space, equipment, labor, pool time, classrooms, boats, spare gear and much more.
Fazah added:
“It’s been one hell of a reminder that ECD was never really the building. The building just happened to be where the community gathered.”
To that end, ECD has set up a GoFundMe page to help rebuild after the devastating fire, with 100% of donations going toward ECD to support their recovery.
