A young scion of an Indy 500 racing dynasty is one of the latest inductees into the Women Divers Hall of Fame.
Cody Unser, a disability awareness advocate, adaptive scuba medical crusader and peer mentor, will be one of six women that will join the WDHOF this coming April.
When she was 13 years old, Unser founded the Cody Unser First Step Foundation “to raise awareness, foster medical collaboration, and develop quality-of-life programs for those with transverse myelitis, the autoimmune condition that left her paralyzed,” according to her WDHOF bio. “Her foundation’s focus on mainstreaming adaptive scuba for over a decade and its potential as a therapeutic tool in exercise science is creating a buzz in the medical and dive industries.”
Unser is currently a graduate student at the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
The other five inductees are Patti Kirk Gross, a Marine Conservation Educator, Ocean Advocate and Coral Ambassador; Laura James, an Environmental Advocate, Filmmaker and Public Speaker; Dawn Kernagis, a Diving Biomedical Researcher, Educational Outreach Advocate, and Cave/Technical Diver; Chantelle Newman, an Educator, Publisher, and Public Speaker; and Ruth Petzold, a Photographer, Conservationist, and Public Speaker.
