A new underwater art exhibition, “Plastic Ocean,” has made its debut on the wreck of the Vandenberg.
The exhibition features the work of Austrian art photographer Andreas Franke. The exhibition tool place to celebrate 10 years since the sinking of the Vandenberg and was held May 23-27, 2019.
The exhibition features 24 works of art by Franke that present a message about the current trends to remove and prevent further plastics and microplastics from entering our oceans. Each image is encased in a sealed stainless steel and plexiglas frame and will be placed on the wreck through August 25, 2019. After their removal, the pieces will be exhibited on land.
It is hoped that the patina developed by the pieces during their time in the ocean will make each individual piece a unique masterpiece that highlights the beauty of our oceans and its life.
