British Man Held In Turkey For Smuggling Coins He Found In The Sea

Toby Robyns from the UK has been arrested and detained at an airport in Turkey on his way home from holiday. Robyns was stopped at the airport with 12 coins in his bag that were deemed to be Turkish heritage. He was arrested and taken to Milas prison.

According to the BBC, the rest of Robyns‘ family left Tukey without him, and are currently liaising with the foreign office to try and help Robyns.

There are conflicting reports on whether Robyns found the coins snorkelling or Scuba diving, or even whether his children found them swimming. But in either case the coins have turned out to be far more of a problem than they are worth to him.

The biggest lesson from this story is whatever you found in the water, either leave it alone, or if you do pick it up, notify the authorities of your find. Otherwise you may face some serious consequences.
