Ocean exploration group OceanX recently released video footage of a rare sight while exploring a shipwreck in the deep waters of the Red Sea: a “larger than human“-sized squid.
Scientists saw what was later determined to be a Purpleback Flying Squid while exploring a shipwreck 850m/2789ft below the surface — a sight not expected in the largely unexplored deep of the Red Sea.
Notably, the massive animal was frequenting the wreck in a manner not previously recorded, leading scientists to wonder about the possibility of the squid calling the wreck home.
