A new map has been created using recently released data showing the most and least dangerous US states for boating incidents.
The data was released by the US Coast Guard’s Boating Safety Division. The data was then cross-referenced with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to produce the number of accidents per 100,000 registered watercraft that resulted in death, injury, or property damage.
The top five states with the most incidents are:
- Nevada with 55 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Rhode Island with 148.41 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Utah with 131.27 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Arizona with 125.31 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- New Jersey with 101.15 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
The top five states with the least accidents are:
- Minnesota with 12.81 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Wyoming with 15.37 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Nebraska with 16.45 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
- Iowa with 17.65 incidents per 100K registered watercraft.
