If you’re in the UK and live near London, there’s a diving event early next month that you might want to check out.
Oyster Diving’s “Big Scuba Day Out” returns to Mercer’s Lake on Saturday May 2nd, 2026, near London — and entry is free.
Whether you’re a seasoned diver, newly qualified, or simply looking for a great day by the water, this event is designed to bring people together. Non-divers are just as welcome, with lakeside walks, a relaxed social atmosphere and plenty to see and do throughout the day.
Dive, Demo & Explore
Qualified divers can join guided dives throughout the day, starting from 9:30am, exploring the unique underwater features of Mercers Lake.
There will also be the opportunity to test dive the latest equipment from leading manufacturers including:
- Suunto
- Apeks
- Aqualung
- Mares
- XDEEP
From regulators and wings to dive computers, this is a rare chance to try new kit in the water before you buy.
Underwater Photography Workshop
A highlight of the day is the underwater photography workshop led by Caroline Robertson-Brown of Frogfish Photography, one of the UK’s most respected underwater photographers.
The session includes a short land-based workshop followed by a guided dive, giving participants the chance to put their skills into practice and receive feedback on their images. (Participants must bring their own underwater camera or action camera.)
An underwater photography competition will also run on the day, with entries judged by Robertson-Brown.
Prizes, Raffle & Community
The event will feature Oyster Diving’s popular raffle, with a slew of prizes up for grabs — including a Suunto Nautic-S worth £479/~€550/~US$648, all in support of the Shark Trust and their ongoing conservation work.
PADI Pro Talk
PADI’s Regional Manager and Oyster Diving’s Course Director will give a talk on how to become a PADI professional Divemaster and Instructor.
Whether you’re coming to dive, try new equipment, improve your photography or simply enjoy the atmosphere, the “Big Scuba Day Out” promises something for everyone.
As an added bonus, attendees will have access to exclusive discounts on courses, holidays and dive gear through oysterdivingshop.com.
