PADI has announced that it is encouraging nominations for the 2021 Sea Heroes Awards.
The effort supports Scuba Diving Magazine and Seiko’s Sea Heroes, which seek to support and reward divers going above and beyond to save the oceans.
Every year the magazine showcases one entrant a month from April to November. At the end of the year, the winner is announced who receives a US$5,000 (~4,106 Euro) prize from Seiko to help fund and support their conservation efforts.
Commenting on the call to action, PADI Media Group Managing Director Dave Freygang said:
“PADI is proud to have a large community of Torchbearers all over the world who are passionate about protecting the ocean. Whether it is through education, conservation or direct action, these divers are the front-liners of ocean and marine conservation and we want to celebrate them and tell their stories to inspire more people to become ambassadors for the ocean.”
While Seiko Watch of America President and CEO Munehisa Shibasaki added:
“We are thrilled to be able to continue honoring the extraordinary work done by those making a difference for oceans, reefs and marine life. Over the years we have worked with PADI to set the global standard for diving watches that support the pioneers of the ocean. With our continued sponsorship of the Scuba Diving magazine Sea Hero Awards since 2017, we are able to further support the conservation pioneers and helping them set the standard for how to protect our ocean.”
