DEMA Opposes Proposed Shark Feeding Ban

-

DEMA is opposing a NOAA proposal to ban shark feeding in the US in its latest Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Restoration Blueprint.

While this may seem a laudable environmental cause at first glance, it is not since NOAA has an exception to its proposed ban. If you are going to feed sharks or other fish in order to kill them (harvest), that is okay! This proposed legislation will kill off any shark-feeding dive operations in federal waters and is opposed by DEMA.

DEMA urges divers to support its opposition to this legislation and its negative effects on dive operators and the general public. You can publicly comment at the following forum.

  • October 18: Marathon, Florida, at the Sanctuary Advisory Council Meeting at 09:00 hrs.
